The Bible Verse
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
John 16:33
Today's Inspirational
As the day comes to a close, a heavy feeling of discouragement can sometimes weigh on our hearts. We might feel defeated by a difficult day, overwhelmed by life’s challenges, or burdened by a sense of weariness. In these moments, it's easy to lose sight of God's presence and feel alone in our struggles.
But we are not without hope. When discouragement sets in, we can turn to three simple yet powerful practices. First, shift your focus to serving others. When we reach out to help someone else, our own problems often shrink in perspective. A simple act of kindness can fill our hearts with a joy that pushes out the gloom. Second, take time to write down your blessings.
This act of gratitude reminds us of God's abundant provision in our lives. As we list the good things, we see God’s faithfulness, and our troubles no longer seem so all-consuming. Finally, immerse yourself in prayer, praise, and God's Word. The psalms, in particular, show us a path from despair to worship. By pouring out our hearts to God and then choosing to praise Him, we lift our eyes from our circumstances to the One who is greater than any challenge.
Our feelings of discouragement may be honest, but they are not the final word. Jesus reminds us to "take heart," because even though we face tribulation, He has already overcome the world.
The Key Take Away
When you feel discouraged, intentionally shift your focus from your own struggles to serving others, counting your blessings, and praising God.
Let's Pray ...
Heavenly Father, when I feel discouraged and heavy-hearted, help me to turn my eyes to you. Thank you for the blessings in my life and for the strength you provide. Guide me to serve others and to find my hope and peace in your Word. Amen.
