The Bible Verse

And Peter answered him, 'Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.' He said, 'Come.' So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came toward Jesus.

Matthew 14:28-29

Today's Inspirational

As we find a moment of peace tonight, let's consider the story of Peter on the water. The disciples were in a boat, tossed about by a storm, when they saw Jesus walking toward them on the waves.

Peter, with a mix of courage and impulsiveness, called out to Jesus, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water." And Jesus said, "Come." In that moment, Peter did the miraculous: he stepped out of the safety of the boat and onto the impossible surface of the water.

This act of faith teaches us so much about our own journeys. Our "boat" represents our comfort zone, our security, and the logical limits we place on ourselves.

Sometimes, to experience God's supernatural power, we have to step out of the boat and obey His call, even when it defies all reason. Peter was able to walk on water as long as his eyes were fixed on Jesus. But the moment he became distracted by the wind and the waves, fear crept in, and he began to sink.

This is a powerful lesson for us all: the storms of life will always be there, but our ability to overcome them depends on where we place our focus.

Even in his doubt, Peter's story doesn't end with him sinking. It ends with Jesus reaching out His hand and saving him. This reminds us that a little faith is better than no faith, and even in our moments of fear and failure, Jesus is always there to catch us.

The ultimate lesson is that Jesus's love and saving power are always available, rescuing us not just from the stormy waters, but from the fear and doubt that try to sink us.

The Key Take Away

When Jesus calls us to step out in faith, our obedience allows us to experience the supernatural. We must keep our eyes fixed on Him, as fear and doubt will cause us to sink.

Let's Pray ...

Heavenly Father, thank you for the story of Peter walking on water. Help me to have the courage to step out of my own "boat" and to trust in your command. When the storms of life rage around me, help me to keep my eyes fixed on you and not on the waves. Thank you for always being there to reach out and save me when my faith falters. Amen.
